Ireland ramps up housing infrastructure with €40bn plan

The latest National Development Plan puts housing at the forefront, earmarking over €40 billion to tackle chronic supply shortages. With €36 billion set for direct housing infrastructure and €4.5 billion allocated for water and grid upgrades, the government aims to enable the delivery of 300,000 new homes by 2030.

Yet concerns remain. 

Planning bottlenecks, regulatory red tape, and execution inefficiencies could stall progress, even with the funding secured. Industry leaders warn that unless delivery models are overhauled, much of the budget may go unspent—or be misallocated.
