Yunex Traffic secures five-year contract for Northern Ireland traffic systems

Yunex Traffic has been awarded a new five-year contract by the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) in Northern Ireland to maintain and develop the region’s Urban Traffic Control (UTC) and management and control (UTMC) systems. 

The majority of these systems are located in Belfast. Under the agreement, Yunex Traffic will maintain the DfI’s hosted UTC-UX and Stratos platforms. The integrated systems connect 328 sites, providing a fully managed, cloud-based service to support traffic control and management across Northern Ireland’s road network.

Wilke Reints, managing director of Yunex Traffic UK, said, “We are proud of our long-standing relationship with the DfI. Since 1991 we have been responsible for maintaining a range of traffic technology across Northern Ireland, with our locally-based, 20-strong, team maintaining more than 1,200 sites, including junctions, intersections and pedestrian crossings.”

Reints added, “During this time, we have built a broad and deep understanding of the needs of both the traffic management team and Northern Ireland road users. This most recent contract award is a testament to that relationship, and we’re excited to continue and further develop our work together.”

Philip Robinson, head of intelligent transport systems at the DfI, commented, “We look forward to continued collaborative working with Yunex Traffic into a future of fast-paced changing technology.”
