Systems Advisory Services secures national procurement contract for Airways server upgrade

Hybrid cloud firm Systems Advisory Services has been awarded a national procurement contract from Airways, New Zealand’s air traffic control agency, to deliver 15 IBM Power-10 servers and associated hardware and software for a $1.7 million (€1.4m) infrastructure upgrade.

The contract supports a planned lifecycle replacement of hardware for Airways’ air traffic management system. Airways issued a tender in October 2025 to upgrade the IBM production servers that underpin its operational systems. Systems Advisory Services was selected from 11 respondents, with the agency confirming the company’s proposal met all technical and operational requirements while being the most cost-effective.

Phase one of the hardware refresh started approximately one year ago when Airways purchased four servers from Systems Advisory Services to evaluate potential upgrade paths. According to the agency, “These servers will form part of an overall technical lifecycle implementation. This current phase has been to procure further servers for our operational systems.” The upgrade is part of Airways’ ICT strategy aimed at maintaining critical infrastructure, system resilience, and safe air traffic management.
