South Kildare firm secures Maynooth Eastern Ring Road contract
Kildare County Council (KCC) has confirmed that John Cradock Limited, a Kilcullen-based civil engineering company, has been awarded the main contract for the Maynooth Eastern Ring Road project. The contract follows an extensive tender process and partial funding confirmation from the Department of Housing via the Local Infrastructure Housing Activation Fund (LIHAF).
John Cradock Limited, operating since 1987, has delivered comparable projects including the Local Distributor Road 4 in Navan, Woodbrook DART Station, three bridges in Adare for Iarnród Éireann, Sallins Greenway, and the N22 Baile Bhuirne–Macroom Road Project. These prior projects underscore the company’s experience in handling large-scale infrastructure initiatives across Ireland.
The Maynooth Eastern Ring Road is planned to connect the R405 Celbridge Road in the south with the R148 Leixlip Road in the north. Key project elements include two signalised junctions, dedicated pedestrian and cyclist facilities, and a 41-metre single-span bridge over the Royal Canal and Dublin to Sligo railway line.
Ancillary works will cover the construction of noise barrier walls, realignment of roughly 800 metres of existing roads, and the installation of four new bus stops. Provisions have also been made to facilitate access to lands zoned for future residential development, supporting long-term urban planning in the area.
KCC Chief Executive Sonya Kavanagh welcomed the contract award, noting the road will significantly improve commuting and local access for Maynooth residents and surrounding communities. Victor Smyth, Managing Director of John Cradock Limited, highlighted the company’s commitment to working closely with KCC and scheme designers Roughan and O’Donovan to ensure timely and effective delivery.
An information platform will be launched to provide updates and maintain engagement with local residents as works progress.
