Industry NewsLidl Ireland surpasses €2b in annual Irish supplier procurement
Lidl Ireland has exceeded €2 billion in annual spending with Irish suppliers, whilst boosting Irish agri-food exports to €404 million. The retailer sources from over 270 Irish producers across fresh produce, dairy, meat and bakery categories, supporting domestic food production and export markets across Lidl's European network.
Retail News disclosed that the €2 billion procurement figure represents continued growth in Lidl's Irish supply chain investment, strengthening the retailer's position as a significant buyer in Ireland's food and agriculture sector. The company's sourcing strategy prioritises local partnerships whilst facilitating international market access for Irish producers.
The €404 million export figure reflects Irish products supplied to Lidl stores across 31 countries in Europe and beyond. Irish beef, dairy, seafood and bakery products feature prominently in the export portfolio, with several suppliers expanding production capacity to meet international demand through Lidl's distribution channels.
Lidl's procurement model combines direct sourcing agreements with Irish producers and participation in industry quality assurance schemes. The retailer works with suppliers ranging from large-scale processors to regional family-owned businesses, providing market access and volume commitments that support long-term planning and investment.
The company stated that supplier partnerships include multi-year contracts, technical support and sustainability initiatives aimed at reducing environmental impact across the supply chain. Lidl has committed to sourcing 100 per cent of fresh Irish meat, milk and eggs from Bord Bia Quality Assurance schemes.
The €2 billion spend figure positions Lidl as one of Ireland's largest private sector purchasers of Irish food products. The procurement volume supports employment across farming, processing, logistics and packaging sectors, whilst the export component contributes to Ireland's agri-food trade balance.
