Go-Ahead Ireland expands workforce after national procurement contract win
Go-Ahead Ireland, part of the international Go-Ahead Group, has secured a national procurement contract from the National Transport Authority to operate 65 routes in the Outer Dublin Metropolitan Area, prompting the creation of 400 new positions.
The contract covers operations through Go-Ahead Ireland’s Ballymount, Ballycoolin, and Kilpedder depots, increasing the company’s Public Service Obligation (PSO) routes from 37 to 72. The expansion includes commuter and regional services across Leinster and follows the company’s growth since commencing operations in 2018.
Go-Ahead Ireland carried 22.5 million passengers in 2024. The new roles will span drivers, mechanics, apprentices, support staff, and management, with at least 90 positions based at a new satellite depot in Wicklow. The additional capacity will support wider operational coverage and service improvements.
Dervla McKay, managing director at Go-Ahead Ireland, said: “The business has progressed steadily over the past several years, built on our commitment to provide reliable, accessible, and friendly public transport services, which has positioned us as the fastest growing bus operator in the region. We also look forward to launching our largest depot yet in Northwest Business Park, Dublin 15, which will house the majority of our Dublin northside-based routes and play a central role in supporting our continued growth.”
Transport Minister Darragh O’Brien noted the importance of the contract, saying: “Investment in public transport services and the commitment of operators such as Go-Ahead Ireland go hand in hand in furthering the development of sustainable public transport that benefits communities.”
Recruitment for the 400 new positions is now underway, reflecting the operational scale of national procurement projects and the role of private operators in delivering public transport infrastructure efficiently.
