DPD Ireland is expanding its logistics infrastructure with a €10 million investment in a second distribution facility designed to increase automation, strengthen operational resilience and support growing parcel volumes.

The expansion, highlighted by Procurement Magazine, will see the new facility equipped with 270 autonomous robots and automated conveyor technology capable of sorting up to 10,000 parcels per hour, significantly increasing the company's processing capacity.

Located at Gateway Logistics Park, the new hub is expected to become operational by October 2026 and will create approximately 200 new jobs while supporting DPD Ireland's continued growth across its national delivery network.

The investment reflects a wider trend within the logistics sector, where automation is becoming an increasingly important consideration in procurement and supply chain strategy. Advanced robotics and AI-driven sorting systems are helping logistics providers improve efficiency, reduce manual handling and maintain consistent service levels during periods of peak demand.

DPD Ireland operates the country's largest parcel delivery network with 38 depots and continues to invest in technology that supports long-term operational performance.

Chief Executive Officer Des Travers said the expansion was driven by sustained customer demand and the company's consistently high service performance, adding that the new facility would strengthen DPD's ability to meet future delivery requirements while maintaining service quality.

Alongside automation, sustainability remains a central focus of the company's investment strategy. DPD Ireland is working towards operating a fully electrified delivery fleet and sourcing all electricity from renewable energy by 2030. Its linehaul operations already run on renewable fuels as part of broader emissions reduction targets.

The company has also been trialling electric heavy goods vehicles in partnership with commercial vehicle manufacturer MAN Truck & Bus as it continues to decarbonise its transport operations.
