Cairn has appointed Sean Gavin as Director of Commercial & Procurement as the homebuilder continues to develop its commercial capability and support the delivery of housing projects across Ireland.
Reported by Irish Building Magazine, the appointment expands leadership oversight across commercial operations and procurement functions, with responsibility for cost management, cost planning and supply chain development.
The role reflects the increasing importance of procurement and commercial planning in supporting large-scale residential delivery, particularly as construction businesses manage evolving project requirements, supply availability and delivery timelines.
According to Cairn, the position will also support increased focus on pre-construction activity and approaches intended to strengthen operational planning and innovation across project delivery.
Sean Gavin joins the business with three decades of experience across residential development and construction leadership roles in the UK. Most recently, he served as Managing Director (South) at London Square, with responsibility spanning delivery, investment and commercial performance.
Before that, he held senior leadership positions at Berkeley Group and also served as UK Construction Director at Ballymore, overseeing major residential development programmes.
Cairn said the appointment forms part of broader efforts to strengthen commercial readiness and support long-term growth across the organisation.
Commercial and procurement functions are becoming increasingly central to residential delivery models, with greater emphasis being placed on supplier engagement, cost visibility and earlier planning during project development stages.
As construction organisations continue expanding delivery capacity, procurement leadership is taking on a broader role that extends beyond sourcing activity to include supply chain coordination, risk management and programme planning.
The appointment signals continued investment in procurement capability as companies seek greater consistency across project execution while maintaining delivery performance in a changing construction environment.
