Acciona Energía clinches 20-year Philippine renewable energy contract

Madrid-based Acciona Energía has secured a 20-year government power supply contract in the Philippines for its 281-megawatt renewable portfolio, including the 101-MW Kalayaan 2 wind project in Laguna and the 180-MW-peak Daanbantayan solar plant in Cebu.

Construction of the wind project is already underway, with the solar facility scheduled to begin development by the end of 2025. The contract, awarded under the fourth green energy auction (GEA-4) by the Department of Energy (DOE), provides long-term certainty for power generation output while supporting the Philippines’ energy transition objectives.

Under GEA-4, the DOE awarded over 10,195 MW of renewable capacity spanning ground-mounted solar, floating solar, onshore wind, and integrated renewables with energy storage, with projects slated for delivery from 2026 through 2029.

Acciona Energía, a unit of Spanish multinational Acciona S.A., operates across 24 countries with roughly 15.1 GW of renewable capacity. In the Philippines, it maintains a development pipeline exceeding 2 GW and has recently strengthened partnerships in Southeast Asia to expand its market presence, including Thailand.

The contract aligns with the government’s ambition to increase the share of renewables to 35 percent by 2030 and 50 percent by 2040, up from the current 22 percent, reinforcing strategic national procurement goals in the energy sector.

Acciona Energía’s long-term commitment offers a stable framework for the deployment of large-scale renewable projects, ensuring predictable output, operational planning, and contributions to the Philippines’ decarbonisation targets.

The projects are expected to generate employment, stimulate local supply chains, and support sustainable growth in the regions of Laguna and Cebu.
